THE EXPERIENCE

What it is actually like

Before you decide

Is this for you?

Yes, if any of these sounds like you:

DAY BY DAY

Itinerary

1

DAY 1 San José - Siquirres

Meet in San José. We transfer by private vehicle towards the Caribbean side of the country, where we spend the night and get ready to start the trek the following day.

2

DAY 2 Sahara - Brisas de Pacuarito | Stages 1B and 2

We start with a vehicle transfer to leave the outer urban areas behind and connect straight to Stage 2. The walking begins, crossing the first trails of dense tropical vegetation.

3

DAY 3 Las Brisas de Pacuarito - Tres Equis | Stages 3 and 4

We head into the Talamanca mountain range accompanied by Cabécar indigenous guides, who share their knowledge as we cross remote trails through protected virgin rainforest.

4

DAY 4 Tres Equis - La Suiza Turrialba | Stages 5 and 6

A walking day through valleys and rural villages, with views over the Pacuare river valley and the volcanoes. We move surrounded by nature in one of the most biodiverse areas of the route.

5

DAY 5 La Suiza - Purisil | Stages 7 and 8

A day of physical recovery. We cover Stage 7 aboard our support vehicle, between sugarcane fields and views of the Irazú and Turrialba volcanoes. We then return to walking, heading into the cloud forests of Tapantí National Park, among rivers and mist.

6

DAY 6 Purisil - Palo Verde | Stages 9 and 10

We make the most of the morning by covering the flat section of the Orosi Valley by vehicle (Stage 9). We then begin the ascent of Stage 10 on foot, climbing mountain trails up to a ridge dotted with farms, where the landscape changes completely.

7

DAY 7 Palo Verde - San Pablo León Cortés | Stages 11 and 12

We walk Stage 11 to crown the highest point of the whole crossing at Cerro Alto (2,336 m), passing through high-altitude coffee plantations. After reaching the top, we cover the descent of Stage 12 by vehicle towards the San Pablo de León Cortés area.

8

DAY 8 San Pablo León Cortés - Naranjillo | Stages 13 and 14

We spend the morning walking Stage 13, through valleys and villages that live to the rhythm of coffee culture. For Stage 14 we board the support vehicle, covering the connecting sections quickly so we can rest ahead of the final day.

9

DAY 9 Naranjillo - Quepos | Stages 15 and 16

One last effort. We walk mountain trails completing Stage 15 and the start of Stage 16, with the first views of the ocean on the horizon. We skip the final stretch of asphalt aboard our vehicle to arrive straight at the Pacific coast (Quepos) and celebrate crossing the country from sea to sea.
