THE EXPERIENCE
The Tour du Mont Blanc is the ultimate alpine trek and one of the world’s great hiking routes. Covering some 170 km, the full circuit encircles the most impressive massif in Western Europe, home to Mont Blanc at 4,810 m, following ancient pastoral trails and historic mountain passes through France, Italy and Switzerland.
The circuit combines the vastness of alpine landscapes — hanging glaciers, green valleys and panoramic mountain passes — with the unique character of each side of the massif. Across nine days on the circuit — eight hiking stages adding up to 125 km and 8,250 m of ascent, plus a rest day in Courmayeur — we cross natural borders and immerse ourselves in three different cultures, staying in mountain refuges and traditional guesthouses where local food and stories are shared at the end of each day.
At MONS, we have adapted this classic route to offer a safe and comfortable experience: we hike light, carrying only a daypack, thanks to luggage transfers between valleys. We travel in small groups, accompanied by our guides, who take care of every detail along the way.
A complete mountain experience that combines physical challenge, disconnection and the satisfaction of completing on foot one of the most iconic circuits in the Alps.
Physically demanding, but without technical difficulty. The circuit takes nine days: eight hiking days, with stages ranging from 12 to 19 km, elevation gains of up to 1,350 m, and 5 to 8 hours of walking per day along alpine trails, plus a full rest day in Courmayeur halfway through the route. In total, 125 km and 8,250 m of accumulated ascent. No high-altitude mountaineering skills are required, but a good level of fitness and previous experience hiking for several consecutive days are essential. The highest point of the circuit is Grand Col Ferret, at 2,537 m above sea level. To make the trek more comfortable, we hike with only a lightweight daypack (30L), with logistical support for luggage transfers between valleys.
Yes, if any of these sounds like you:
The adventure begins as we set off towards the Alps. We board our international flight to Geneva, Switzerland. Overnight on board.
Upon arrival in Geneva, we meet our transfer and head towards the Chamonix Valley. As we approach the mountains, the fresh alpine air and snow-capped peaks of Mont Blanc mark the beginning of our adventure. Once in Chamonix, we have time to rest after the journey, settle in and enjoy our first taste of the alpine surroundings.
We take a full day in Chamonix to rest, acclimatize and explore this iconic alpine town before setting off on the Tour du Mont Blanc. It is also the perfect opportunity to review and prepare our gear, meet the guides and get everything ready for the trek ahead.
We officially begin the Tour du Mont Blanc in Les Houches, heading towards the Les Contamines Valley. The trail gradually gains elevation towards Col de Voza, where the first spectacular views of Aiguille du Bionnassay and its hanging glacier unfold. From there, we continue through pine forests, traditional alpine hamlets and open meadows before descending into the picturesque village of Les Contamines-Montjoie.
We climb through the Notre-Dame de la Gorge Valley, following ancient trails and historic stone bridges. The route then takes us across Col du Bonhomme and Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (2,479 m), before descending towards Les Mottets Refuge, our overnight stop.
Today we leave France behind and cross into Italy via Col de la Seigne (2,516 m), the natural border between the two countries. From the pass, we enjoy impressive views towards the southern slopes of Mont Blanc and the Aiguille Noire de Peuterey. We then descend through the Val Veny, following the valley towards the classic alpine town of Courmayeur, in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
A well-deserved day to slow down and enjoy Courmayeur, one of the most charming alpine towns in the Aosta Valley. A chance to rest, recharge and discover the local atmosphere and cuisine before continuing the trek.
We resume the trail through the Italian Val Ferret, with unforgettable views of the towering walls and glaciers of the Grandes Jorasses. The stage ends at the historic Refuge Bonatti, perched on a unique panoramic balcony overlooking the Mont Blanc massif.
We continue along the Italian Val Ferret before beginning the ascent to the highest point of the standard route, Grand Col Ferret (2,537 m), the gateway into Switzerland. As we cross the pass, the landscape changes dramatically, giving way to green pastures and traditional wooden chalets. We continue downhill until reaching the charming village of La Fouly.
We follow the slopes of the Swiss valley along forest trails and through traditional alpine villages, including Champex-Lac. Depending on weather conditions and the group's pace, we ascend via Bovine or take the higher mountain variant before descending towards the small village of Trient, known for its distinctive pink church.
We climb towards Col de la Balme (2,191 m), where the trail brings us back into France. From the pass, the Chamonix Valley opens up before us, with Mont Blanc dominating the horizon. We then descend towards Le Tour/Montroc, surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery.
We finish the circuit with one of the most spectacular stages in the Alps. Following a panoramic balcony trail, we reach the Lacs des Chéserys and Lac Blanc (2,352 m), with unforgettable views directly across to Mont Blanc and the Mer de Glace. From La Flégère, we descend to Chamonix, where we can rest, explore the town and celebrate together the completion of this incredible journey.
After breakfast, we transfer by road to Geneva Airport for our return flight to Argentina.
Arrival in Buenos Aires, marking the end of our services and the Tour du Mont Blanc with MONS.

It is demanding through accumulation: nine consecutive days on the circuit, with eight hiking days of 6 to 8 hours, stages of 12 to 19 km and up to 1,350 m of ascent in a single day. No high-mountain or glacier technique is required, but you should arrive trained and have walked several consecutive days before. Halfway through we take a full rest day in Courmayeur, which makes a real difference for the second half.
September is the end of the season on the circuit and, for many, the best part of it. The trail is far quieter than in July and August, and the dry end-of-season air leaves the massif clearer. The trade-off is that nights are already cold and there can be fresh snow on the passes, so you walk with more layers than in midsummer and some days can be genuinely cold. The huts close at the end of the month: after that you cannot do the circuit sleeping in the mountains, which is why September is one of the first months to sell out.
The difference is how you get there and back. Paquete Full includes the Buenos Aires – Geneva – Buenos Aires tickets and the transfers between the airport and Chamonix, so you leave and return with the group without arranging anything. On Site is for those who prefer to issue their own flights or travel on miles: you make your own way to Chamonix, join the group on day 2 and the programme ends there on day 13. The itinerary, the refuges, the guide, the internal transfers during the trek and the meals are exactly the same in both options. If you choose On Site we send you the group's schedule and explain how to get there from Geneva airport, so you can time your arrival with everyone else's.
It depends on the group size. With 5 travellers or more, a MONS guide accompanies the group for the whole trip, from Buenos Aires to the return. If the departure does not reach that minimum, the trip still runs with exactly the same itinerary: the full trek is led by a professional Spanish-speaking mountain guide and all the logistics remain coordinated by MONS, but without a MONS guide accompanying you for the entire journey. We confirm this up to 3 months before departure, with plenty of time to issue your flights or request time off work.
It depends on when. Up to 30 days before departure, and as long as the operator in France allows it, you can reschedule or apply what you paid as credit towards another international trip; any costs the rescheduling generates are yours. Within 30 days of departure there are no refunds, because by then the huts, the guide and the services with the operators on the ground are already committed. It is all written in our terms of sale, on the How to book page: https://www.monsactividadesdemontana.tur.ar/en/how-to-book/
If we do not reach the minimum number of participants, or if something beyond our control comes up such as adverse weather, we cancel the departure and you choose: move to another date, or get the full deposit back. That is the general MONS policy for every expedition. Note this is different from having a MONS guide travel with the group from Argentina, which is confirmed with 5 travellers: below that the trip still runs, with the same itinerary and a professional Spanish-speaking mountain guide on the ground.
We combine both sides of the TMB. In the towns —Chamonix and Courmayeur— we stay in urban accommodation with private rooms and bathrooms. In the mountains we sleep in alpine refuges and hostels, usually in shared dormitories with common bathrooms and a set dinner menu of local cuisine. The refuges are an essential part of the experience: basic but comfortable, and where the social life of the trail happens.
No. Your main bag is transferred to the accommodations that can be reached by vehicle, so you walk with just your daypack. On some mountain stages the transfer cannot reach, and you carry what you need for that night; the guide lets you know in advance in each case.
Much further ahead than you would expect. September is one of the first months to sell out and TMB refuges fill almost a year ahead: places like Bonatti or Les Mottets are often fully booked twelve months in advance. That is why we work with closed group sizes and early booking: the deposit secures your bed in the mountains, not just your place in the group.
Message us on WhatsApp at +54 9 3512 11-3842 to confirm availability for your date. The deposit locks in your place and your price, and from there we handle all the logistics: refuges, transfers, flights and paperwork. You fill in your form, pack your bag and train.
Yes, but it must be requested in advance. TMB refuges and hostels work with set menus and need to know about special diets before departure in order to prepare them. Tell us when you book and we arrange it with each accommodation.
The Mont Blanc valley is very well connected: there are buses, trains and cable cars at almost every point of the route. If your body or the weather does not cooperate on a given day, the guide adapts the stage by shortening it or using local transport, and the next day you pick up the trail without missing the route.
You will need an Argentine passport valid for at least six months at the time of travel. Entry requirements for the Schengen area can change, so we confirm the current ones when you book and support you through the process. On money: France and Italy use the euro and Switzerland the Swiss franc, although in the Mont Blanc area most Swiss refuges also accept euros.
