THE EXPERIENCE
What we love most about this journey
• Overnight in camp with a direct view of Fuego Volcano’s eruptions • Sunrise from the summit of Acatenango (3,976 m) • Chichicastenango’s indigenous market with a local guide • Kayaking at dawn on Lake Atitlán • Tikal: Maya temples deep in the Petén rainforest • A MONS guide from Argentina with you every step of the way
We travel in a small group (between 6 and 12 people) so we can set a steady pace, linger where it matters, and always have a MONS guide from Argentina at your side.
In Antigua, history lives on every corner; on Acatenango, the quiet of altitude and the glow of first light; on Atitlán, still water and volcanoes on the horizon; at Tikal, Maya grandeur that leaves you speechless. A route that balances culture, nature, and a challenging stretch of trekking—fully backed by our logistics.
Moderate to high difficulty because of the two-day Acatenango Volcano expedition with a high-altitude camp overnight, an optional night or predawn summit push, and long hiking days. The rest of the itinerary combines transfers, cultural visits, and moderate activities.
We depart Argentina for Guatemala City. On arrival we transfer to Antigua and settle into our hotel. The afternoon is yours to explore cobblestone streets, historic churches, and the town’s rhythm. In the evening we share a welcome dinner, meet the team, and review what lies ahead.
We leave early to begin the ascent of Acatenango—an intense day across changing landscapes until we reach our high camp or mountain shelter. From there, those who wish may take an optional hike toward Fuego Volcano, one of Central America’s most active peaks. We spend the night at camp with front-row views of its eruptions—a rare night in the wild.
Before dawn, optional summit push for sunrise above the clouds and panoramic views of the volcanic chain. After breakfast we descend and return to Antigua. The afternoon is free—rest or keep exploring at your own pace.
We leave Antigua for the Guatemalan highlands. En route we visit Chichicastenango’s market—one of the country’s most iconic—with a local guide, plus Santo Tomás church and the colourful cemetery, where Maya and colonial traditions meet. Later we continue to Lake Atitlán for lakeside lodging.
In the morning we visit San Juan La Laguna, one of the lake’s most authentic, creative villages—women’s co-ops with natural dyes and medicinal plant workshops. The afternoon is free to enjoy the lake your way: relax, swim, explore, or simply take in the view.
We start early with a kayak outing in the lake’s morning calm—a striking angle on the volcanoes and shoreline. In the afternoon we transfer to Guatemala City, ready for the following day.
Early transfer to the airport for a flight to Flores—gateway to the Petén rainforest. From there we continue to Tikal National Park (World Heritage). With a specialised local guide we explore temples, ceremonial plazas, and the Great Plaza, surrounded by tropical forest, sound, and wildlife. Afternoon return to Flores and flight back to Guatemala City. Overnight in the capital; evening farewell dinner.
After breakfast, transfer to La Aurora International Airport for your flight home to Argentina. We leave Guatemala with fresh stories, unforgettable landscapes, and shared memories.
There is a demanding stretch: the Acatenango expedition (days 2 and 3) means proper high-mountain trekking with a camp night above 3,500 m. The rest of the route is moderate. We recommend some day-hiking under your belt and solid cardio. You do not need to be a climber, but regular training makes a real difference.
The Full Experience (USD 3,490) covers international flights departing from Argentina, all ground transfers, seven nights’ lodging, every excursion on the itinerary, your MONS guide, plus welcome and farewell dinners. The On-Site Experience (USD 2,690) is everything above except international flights—ideal if you want to book your own ticket or use miles.
Buenos Aires–Guatemala City fares in March often sit around USD 700–900. The price gap between the two options is USD 800—essentially the cost of the ticket. The Full Experience bundles that flight near cost, plus the ease of meeting the group from the origin airport without doing the legwork yourself.
We run a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 20 guests. Groups stay intentionally small: better pace, more attention from your guide, and a more grounded feel in each place.
Your MONS guide—from Argentina—is with you all eight days, from departure through the return. In Chichicastenango and Tikal, specialised local guides join for those sites.
The summit lies at 3,976 m and the climb usually takes 5–7 hours with your pack on. It is demanding yet reasonable for medium–high fitness and some trekking experience. The optional sunrise summit push is voluntary—if you would rather rest in camp, that is completely fine.
Yes. The Acatenango camp looks straight at Fuego, one of Central America’s most active volcanoes. Eruptions are frequent—and at night they rank among the most powerful natural shows you will ever see. We cannot promise a show (it is nature), but the odds are very high.
March falls in the dry season—one of the best windows to visit. Clear days, cold nights up high, and strong visibility from Acatenango. Chichicastenango market runs Thursdays and Sundays, and the itinerary is timed to land on one of those days.
No. Argentine passport holders do not need a visa. You only need a valid passport with at least six months left beyond your return date.
Antigua: historic-centre hotel (two nights). Lake Atitlán: lakeside lodging (two nights). Guatemala City: hotel in a traveller-friendly area (two nights). Acatenango: mountain shelter high on the mountain (one night). Every stay is chosen by MONS for location, safety, and real local flavour.
All breakfasts from day two onward, the welcome dinner (day one), and the farewell dinner (day seven) are covered. Meals during the Acatenango expedition are included as well. Other lunches and dinners are not part of the package—Guatemala eats well at every budget.
You lock your spot with a USD 350 deposit (payable in dollars or pesos at the day’s exchange rate). The balance follows fixed instalments based on the plan you choose. Early bookings get a discount on either option.
Like anywhere worthwhile, Guatemala calls for basic street sense. Antigua, Lake Atitlán, and Tikal are established international hubs with solid infrastructure for travellers. Travelling with MONS means a planned route, a guide with you throughout, and a direct line whenever you need it.
Absolutely. Past trips with us are not required. We do ask you to read the Acatenango difficulty notes and be straight about your current fitness. If you are unsure, message us—we will help you decide whether this is the right trip for you, right now.
