We begin our trek from Villa Alpina, a picturesque location, and then spend three intense days crossing the Pampa de Achala Natural Reserve, discovering some of its most unique landscapes.
UPCOMING DEPARTURES
THE EXPERIENCE
It’s not just about reaching the highest point in the province (2,790 m). It’s about disconnecting from the city, sharing the experience with a great group, and seeing how far you can go. Trek with Mons, with everything taken care of so you can just focus on the experience.
Looking for your next big challenge? Champaquí is an icon of adventure tourism in Argentina. Over three days, you’ll follow historic trails from Villa Alpina, crossing native forests, clear water creeks, and the “Desierto de la Virgen”.
The goal? To reach the summit. But the real reward isn’t just the top — it’s what happens along the way: the refuges, the shared laughs, and that feeling of arriving tired but happy.
You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but you do need a good attitude. We take care of the guides, safety, and logistics — you bring the motivation to push yourself.
This experience is ideal for those looking for trekking in Córdoba, memorable landscapes, and a real connection with the mountains. Cerro Champaquí is more than just a hike — it’s about disconnecting, sharing, and seeing how far you can go.
During the itinerary, we’ll cover: Day 1: 15 km with 800 m of elevation gain Day 2: 12 km with 690 m of elevation gain Day 3: return along the same trail as the first day It’s important to keep in mind that this is not a regular walk. The elevation gain, the weight of your backpack, and the trail make it more physically demanding. We stay in a mountain hut with basic facilities. The hut is based on an old rural house and adapted to the remote environment, so it doesn’t offer the comfort of a typical accommodation. - Showers are available, usually with hot water - Bathrooms are located outside the rooms - Rooms have bunk beds with shared mattresses Far from conventional tourism, this experience gives you access to a unique natural setting. Some places can only be reached on foot — and some experiences only happen in the mountains.
Distance: 15 km · Elevation gain: + 800 mts
Distance: 15 km · Elevation gain: +800 m We start the trekking in Villa Alpina, about 40 km from Villa General Belgrano, a classic starting point for the Champaquí trek. The first few kilometers go through pine forests and along the eastern side of Cerro La Mesilla, where the first natural viewpoints open up with wide views over the Calamuchita Valley. We continue towards the Champaquí hut area, crossing the Socavón creek and later the “Desierto de la Virgen”, two characteristic points along the route. After passing Cerro Lechiguanas, we reach the mountain hut. There, a snack will be waiting for us, along with the chance to take a hot shower, followed by dinner — just what you need to recover for the next day.
Distance: 12 km · Elevation gain: + 690 mts
Distance: 12 km · Elevation gain: +690 m After breakfast, and with lighter backpacks, we start the ascent towards the summit of Cerro Champaquí, the highest point in Córdoba. This section usually takes around 5 hours to reach 2,790 m. At the beginning, we walk through the Champaquí Valley, following the Tabaquillo River, and then continue through tabaquillo forests, an iconic tree of the Sierras Grandes. The trail also takes us to the Cueva de los 40, one of the most recognizable spots along the trek. Near the summit, a short but steep rocky section adds a bit of challenge to the final stretch. At the top, we stop for lunch and take some time to enjoy the views, weather permitting. We return along the same trail, with great views over the Champaquí and Calamuchita valleys.
Distance: 15 km · Elevation gain: - 800 mts
Distance: 15 km · Elevation loss: -800 m On our third day, we follow the same route back from the first day. If the weather allows, we’ll explore some quieter spots along the way, a great chance to enjoy the last moments in the Sierras Grandes. After lunch, we begin the final descent back to Villa Alpina, usually arriving around 3:30 pm. Once we reach the starting point, the trek and our services come to an end, closing three days of adventure on one of the classic routes of Cerro Champaquí.
An excellent experience! Don’t be afraid if your physical condition isn’t the best. Thanks to the guides, I made it. They are very professional, kind, and patient. A thousand thanks!
An excellent experience to reconnect with nature, backed by the full support and care of a dedicated team. A thousand thanks!!! Looking forward to many more adventures! 🧡
Excellent organization by MONS. The group and the experience were very warm. The guide was fully trained and highly skilled…
Pure magic. To be able to arrive and have the group accept and tolerate us with our limitations... We broke our own barriers thanks to everyone who pushed us forward. And our guide was the best. A beautiful person who gave us all his energy so we could each take what we needed. A great moderator and leader. He made everything flow and made it all possible. Thank you!!!!
An absolutely out-of-this-world experience from start to finish: camaraderie, commitment, adventure, great vibes, laughter, warmth, and more. Mons was always attentive to our needs and interests—before, during, and after the trip. The guide was a 10/10: cool, respectful, and engaging. I highly recommend traveling with Mons!
A UNIQUE experience, flawless in every aspect, despite all the weather adversities (rain, hail, mud, fog, etc., etc.). Highly professional guides, and the Irene mountain hut was spectacular—the food was a luxury, breakfast and snacks were incredible, and the hot water in the shower was a dream. They were attentive to every single detail. MONS's organization was seamless; I am deeply grateful for the experience.
Of course! You can join any of our scheduled dates. We keep our groups small to ensure a more personal experience, with a strong focus on safety and group connection.
Our groups are usually made up of solo travelers, friends, and couples. If you’re looking for something more private or can’t find a date that works for you, get in touch and we can design a custom experience so your group can explore the mountains at your own pace.
Yes — food won’t be something you need to worry about. Preparing inclusive meals is an important part of what we do. We offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, even in the middle of the mountains.
We just ask that you let us know in advance when booking, so we can plan everything carefully and make sure your meals are properly organized.
It’s simple. First, send us a message on WhatsApp at +54 9 3512 11-3842 to check availability for your preferred date. Then, you secure your spot with a deposit.
From there, we take care of all the logistics. You just fill out your medical form, pack your backpack, and get ready for the experience.
Champaquí can be climbed year-round, but each season offers a very different experience:
Autumn (March to June): The best time to go. The weather is more stable, temperatures are ideal for walking, there’s less rain, and visibility is usually excellent.
Spring (September to November): Also a great time, with mild temperatures and blooming landscapes, although rain is more frequent.
Summer (December to February): Long and very warm days, but also the rainy season, with frequent thunderstorms in the mountains. It’s important to keep an eye on the forecast.
Winter (July and August): For those looking for more of a challenge, with below-freezing temperatures. Days can still be pleasant, but you may encounter snow or ice on the trail.
One of the main doubts when leaving the city is whether you’ll be fit enough or if you might slow the group down. The good news is that you don’t need to be an athlete to join. This experience is designed for people who want to disconnect from their routine, not to push for performance.
That said, it’s important to be realistic: the mountains do require effort. The challenge isn’t about speed, but about handling fatigue and being mentally ready to step outside your comfort zone. It’s not the same as going for a walk in the city.
- Day 1 (Approach): This is the most physically demanding day in terms of sustained effort. You’ll hike around 14–15 km with a steady uphill towards the huts, carrying your backpack. It’s a long day, but with small groups we keep things relaxed. We take regular breaks to hydrate, eat, and enjoy the surroundings. Expect around 6 to 8 hours on the trail, with roughly 800 m of elevation gain.
- Day 2 (Summit day): The advantage of this day is that we leave most of our gear at the hut and hike with a much lighter backpack. It’s about 10–12 km in total (round trip), with 690 m of elevation gain and rockier terrain as we make our way up to 2,790 m.
- Day 3 (Descent): We return along the same trail as day one. While it’s less demanding cardio-wise, it requires good leg strength and endurance, especially for the knees, as you control your body weight on the way down.
If you have a reasonably active lifestyle — like doing some sports, going to the gym a couple of times a week, cycling, or walking long distances — you’re in a good position to join.
What really matters in the mountains is mental endurance, a good attitude, and being open to the experience. We take care of setting the pace so the group moves safely and can enjoy every step.
To move comfortably in the mountains, packing smart is key. Less unnecessary weight means a better experience.
The basics start with the 3-layer system:
- Base layer (breathable): helps keep sweat away from your body and avoid moisture
- Mid layer (insulation): a fleece or synthetic jacket to keep you warm
- Outer layer (waterproof/windproof): protection against rain and strong winds
You should also bring:
- Trekking shoes or boots (with good grip, and already worn to avoid blisters)
- Backpack (around 40–60 liters)
- Sleeping bag suitable for mountain hut temperatures
- Water bottles or hydration system (capacity for 2 liters)
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- Trekking poles are recommended
We meet on the first day at 9:00 am at Portal del Champaquí. (https://goo.gl/maps/VznDHRFM3DMm4edZ6). From there, we begin the trek.
The estimated arrival time in Villa Alpina is around 3:30 pm. We know many people have flights or buses to catch, so the guides manage the timing to stay on schedule.
That said, the mountains come first. Weather conditions can affect timing — for example, heavy rain or rising water levels — so schedules may change for safety reasons. We recommend booking your return for later in the evening so you can enjoy the experience without rushing.
Villa Alpina is about 40 km from Villa General Belgrano. The last 13 km are on a mountain road, with frequent ups and downs.
While it’s not a typical dirt road, it’s usually accessible by car. That said, conditions can vary, so it’s important to drive slowly and carefully.
Cars are usually left along the road near the starting point of the trek, and we haven’t had any safety issues so far.
There’s also the option to leave your car in private parking areas if you prefer.
From Villa General Belgrano, it’s about 40 km. The last 13 km are on a mountain road, so it’s not comparable to a regular highway drive.
We recommend allowing at least 1.5 hours for the trip.
The most common places to stay the night before are Santa Rosa de Calamuchita, Villa General Belgrano, and Villa Alpina.
For safe and well-located options, we recommend checking the official directory:

No, the experience is not cancelled due to rain in the forecast. We monitor weather conditions constantly and know that mountain forecasts can change, with the most reliable updates usually coming 24 to 48 hours in advance.
Our team is trained to manage safety and make decisions based on real conditions in the mountains.
You’ll be doing physical activity for three days, so staying hydrated is key. We recommend drinking at least 2 liters per day to help your body adapt to the conditions.
During the trek, we’ll cross creeks where you’ll be able to refill. Our guides will show you exactly where and how to do it.
We suggest bringing containers with a total capacity of around 2 liters.
At the mountain hut where we stay, there is Wi-Fi, but no mobile signal.
We recommend using airplane mode and keeping your phone just for photos to save battery. One important tip: at night, keep your phone and power banks inside your sleeping bag — the cold drains batteries much faster.
At the mountain hut where we stay, there are only a few power outlets, and a generator is used at night to charge devices.
Our focus isn’t on performance, but on creating a real mountain experience — a chance to disconnect from the city while still enjoying a high level of service in a remote setting.
- Small groups: We keep things relaxed, so you can enjoy the trail, take a breath, and connect with the group.
- Inclusive meals: We take care of all the food. Full board is included, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available, even in the mountains.
- Mountain hut stay: We sleep in mountain huts. Facilities are simple compared to the city, but it’s the perfect place to rest and share the day.
- Everything taken care of: You just pack your backpack — we handle the logistics and safety.
Forget about organizing bookings or carrying cooking gear. We take care of everything so you can focus on walking and enjoying the landscape.
- Human Pace: We don’t race. We move as a group, respecting each person’s pace and adaptation time. At Mons, no one gets left behind.
- Refuges with Character and Comfort: We stay in authentic mountain refuges (we don’t use tents on this trip), equipped with beds, hot showers, and full meal service.
- Inclusive Meals: All meals in the mountains are included (except lunch on Day 1), with menus fully adapted for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free diets.
