Explore Cerro Áspero and discover Pueblo Escondido, the legendary abandoned mine in Córdoba. Trekking expedition with guides, mountain hut stay, and full safety support.
THE EXPERIENCE
In the heart of the Comechingones Mountains, in Córdoba province, one of the best-kept secrets for trekking lovers can be found: Pueblo Escondido. An old mining camp abandoned in the 1960s, surrounded by waterfalls, suspension bridges, and stone trails that seem frozen in time.
We invite you to leave the city routine behind and enjoy a weekend of complete disconnection. Over three days, you’ll explore stunning landscapes, cross crystal-clear creeks, and hike the historic trails of Cerro Áspero (2,000 m). We take care of the logistics, meals, and your safety — your only goal is to walk and enjoy your surroundings.
If you have an active lifestyle and exercise regularly, you’ll enjoy every step. We move at a comfortable speed so the whole group can enjoy the mountains safely.
During the itinerary, we’ll cover: Day 1: 9 km with 100 m of ascent and 400 m of descent. Day 2: 6 km with 400 m of ascent. It’s important to keep in mind that these are not city walks: the elevation changes, the weight of your backpack, and the natural environment make for a different level of challenge. Overnight stays are in a mountain hut with basic facilities. The hut was converted from an old mining camp and retains its rugged, historic character, so it doesn’t offer the comfort of urban accommodation: > There are no showers available. > Bathrooms are outside the rooms. > Rooms have mattresses in shared bunk beds. Far from conventional tourism, this experience gives you access to a truly unique natural environment — because some landscapes can only be reached on foot, and some experiences can only be found in the mountains.
Distance: 9 km · Elevation: +100 m ascent | -400 m descent After meeting up, we’ll head to Puesto Serrano “El Tono,” right on the border between Córdoba and San Luis. From there, we begin our trek for an unforgettable day. Our first stop is Salto del Tigre, an impressive 25-meter-high natural waterfall. Then, we’ll follow hidden and alternative trails to reach the summit of Cerro Áspero, where a breathtaking panoramic view of the Comechingones Ridge awaits. Finally, we’ll descend to Pueblo Escondido, where a snack will be waiting for us before spending our first night at the mountain hut.
We start the morning with breakfast at the hut before exploring the history of the area. We’ll wander through the corners of this old mining camp and visit the mysterious tungsten mines. Around midday, we’ll enjoy a mountain lunch and get ready for the final stretch: climbing back up to Puesto El Tono. This marks the end of our trek, after which we’ll take the transfer back to Villa de Merlo, concluding our services.
A very beautiful experience on the trip to Pueblo Escondido / Cerro Áspero. Unforgettable moments.

IN ACTION
Of course! You can join any of our scheduled dates. We keep our groups small to ensure a more personal experience, with a strong focus on safety and group connection.
Our groups are usually made up of solo travelers, friends, and couples. If you’re looking for something more private or can’t find a date that works for you, get in touch and we can design a custom experience so your group can explore the mountains at your own pace.
Yes — food won’t be something you need to worry about. Preparing inclusive meals is an important part of what we do. We offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, even in the middle of the mountains.
We just ask that you let us know in advance when booking, so we can plan everything carefully and make sure your meals are properly organized.
It’s simple. First, send us a message on WhatsApp at +54 9 3512 11-3842 to check availability for your preferred date. Then, you secure your spot with a deposit.
From there, we take care of all the logistics. You just fill out your medical form, pack your backpack, and get ready for the experience.
Our focus isn’t on performance, but on creating a real mountain experience — a chance to disconnect from the city while still enjoying a high level of service in a remote setting.
The meeting point is in Villa de Merlo (San Luis), at the new Bus Terminal, at 9:00 am.
The estimated arrival time in Villa de Merlo is around 3:30 pm. We know many participants have flights or buses to catch, so the guides manage the walking rhythm to meet this schedule.
That said, the mountains always come first: if there are weather-related safety issues (rising rivers or storms), times may vary. We recommend booking return tickets for the evening or the next day so you can enjoy the trek without stress.
The most popular place to stay the night before the trek is Merlo.
No, the experience is not cancelled due to rain in the forecast. We monitor weather conditions constantly and know that mountain forecasts can change, with the most reliable updates usually coming 24 to 48 hours in advance.
Our team is trained to manage safety and make decisions based on real conditions in the mountains.
One of the biggest concerns when leaving the city is the fear of not keeping up or holding back the group. The good news is, you don’t need to be an elite athlete to join. Our approach is designed for people who want to disconnect from their routine, not break sports records.
That said, it’s important to be realistic: the mountains demand effort. The real challenge isn’t speed, but endurance and the mental readiness to step out of your comfort zone. This experience is not comparable to a walk in an urban park.
Day 1: A sustained 400-meter descent over 9 km. This mainly tests leg strength, knees, and joints for controlling the descent.
Day 2: Shorter in distance (6 km), but requires good cardiovascular endurance and muscle strength to climb those 400 meters of ascent back to the vehicles with your backpack.
If you have an active lifestyle and exercise regularly, you’ll enjoy every step.
To move comfortably in the mountains, packing smart is key. Less unnecessary weight means a better experience.
The basics start with the 3-layer system:
- Base layer (breathable): helps keep sweat away from your body and avoid moisture
- Mid layer (insulation): a fleece or synthetic jacket to keep you warm
- Outer layer (waterproof/windproof): protection against rain and strong winds
You should also bring:
- Trekking shoes or boots (with good grip, and already worn to avoid blisters)
- Backpack (around 40–60 liters)
- Sleeping bag suitable for mountain hut temperatures
- Water bottles or hydration system (capacity for 2 liters)
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat
- Trekking poles are recommended
You’ll be doing physical activity for 2 days, so staying hydrated is non-negotiable. We recommend drinking at least 2 liters per day to help your body adapt to the environment.
During the trek, we’ll cross creeks, and our guides will show you exactly where and how to refill your bottle. We suggest bringing containers with a total capacity of 2 liters of water.
Once the trek begins, there’s no signal. We recommend putting your phone on airplane mode to stay connected with the surroundings and save battery.
A crucial tip: at night, keep your phone and power banks inside your sleeping bag, as the cold at altitude drains batteries very quickly.
